Edinburgh is Scotland’s compact, hilly capital. It is divided into two sections – the medieval Old Town and the elegant Georgian New Town with gardens and neoclassical buildings. Looming over the city is Edinburgh Castle, home to Scotland’s crown jewels and the Stone of Destiny which was used in the traditional coronation of Scottish rulers. Arthur’s Seat is an imposing peak in Holyrood Park that allows for sweeping views over the city, and then there is also nearby Calton Hill which is topped with many monuments and memorials.
Besides the incredible architecture and history, Edinburgh has to offer, it is also brimming with new eateries, hip bars and night-clubs; not to mention fantastic breweries and whisky distilleries that seem to be popping up everywhere.
If that doesn’t sell you – for all you Harry Potter fans out there, Edinburgh is also the inspiration behind some of the movie’s most famous locations such as Diagon Alley and Hogwarts. Oh, and did we mention Castle concerts? Because that’s definitely a thing!
